How to Make Money as a Kid or Teenager

I’m with Zane Hill, he is 16 years old. He started his mowing company with $0 he is gonna share. Thank you for coming on the air.  I absolutely love this story. Can you tell us how you got started, Zane?

Chick-Fil-A

In summer 2016 I searched and searched for jobs young kids. I didn't have my driver's licence and stuff, so I was going to work at Chick-Fil-A, but I decided not to because it was so much work to get there and back every day. I actually never mowed before. Never even my yard.  My dad told me to go cut the grass, so I cut the grass and it was kind of fun. I liked what I did and you could see the final result that was where it got all started. So you were 15 when you started cutting grass for the first time? Yes sir. You are 16 now?? Yes, I turned 16 over the summer. And you have your own company called the Young Man and His Mower?? Yes sir. How did you get started? How did you get mower??

Bike Carrier Trailer

Luckily my parents had two mowers.  My dad has one that was really old.  I wound up having to spend about $20 on spark plugs, an air filter, and may be some gas line. Along the way we got it running, We created a trailer out of a child’s bike carrier and that kind of started the business. I love your ingenuity with this thing. You took a child’s carrier and modified it and turned it into a lawn mowing trailer that you pull behind your bike. And that is how you get started to date?? Yes Sir. Absolutely love this story and I’m sure with you.  Here is another way if you don’t have a lot more in the family that you can fix up and grab from somebody. You go to a neighbor’s house and you will tell a neighbor, "I will ll make a deal with you. If you give me your mower, I will mow your lawn for free for the entire summer." Maybe you have to make it two summers. "What the heck is this kid doing?" Basically what you tell them is you want to be able to keep them mower when you're done. Then you used that same mower and you go out and mow other people’s lawn with that mower to start your business. Its costs you nothing to get the mower. It gives whoever you mow the lawn for they get out of doing all the labor for one or two seasons. Yeah.

And now you’re in business

Oh yeah! It’s as simple as that doesn’t matter, if you do mowing. snow blowing, snow plowing, or whatever you’re doing, you guys start thinking outside the box. That’s what you did with your bike trailer. I absolutely love it same you know you’re a sophomore now?? Yes Sir In high school. So how is mowing going for you?? I have around 12 to 15 yards a week. I do yard work on the weekends. How did you get 15 to 20 yards? How did you do it door to door? I went door to door. I think I knocked on 300 or 400 houses. You knocked on 300-400 doors yourself? Yes Sir,

Key Mindset

Do you have any words of wisdom for the guys and girls , kids out watching there right now.. Umm if you cant do it get somebody else that can motivate you or just think about the long run. What’s going to happen someday, you’re gonna have a business full grown business its all start with one little pebble at a time. So what is your what is your long term plan since now you seem to be a visionary thinker and you’re approaching? This is like a marathon, not a sprint. I get my license and in 4 or 5 days. I’m not going to lie, it’s going to take me a while to get a vehicle. But i just made my first real purchase which was a Redmax 7500.
